Title: Getting started?
Post by: Budly on November 21, 2014, 09:19:53 AM
Do we have a "getting started" guideline around the forum somewhere? And if not, can we make one? I just got a win 8 computer and reinstalled NWN with my old discs. So how will this work out? What do I need to do? Run as admin, Manually download patch and CEP, right?

Windows 8 Though?
Likely like crap.
The only way I could solve my Windows 8 Problem even a little bit was to downgrade to 7, but it seems to be a hit or miss thing
Specifically, the integrated nvidia graphics + Windows 8 seems to be a problem.
Certain things from the CEP (Even after loading in the haks from my desktop which I have confirmed to be up to date for RL and working) show up as giant red boxes
The menus and chat bars disappear randomly
and tabbing out is a pain (AKA you will crash every time)

Other than that, the usual, set affinity to 1 core, XP Service Pack 3, make sure Windows isn't set to Aura Themes if at all possible.

I eventually got it running great on windows 8, and i had a couple different systems running it with 8 and found all sorts of varying degrees of issues - related not to the OS, but the machine itself. I didn't crash every tab out either, just sometimes if the touch screen instated a screen flip while i was in game mode. Really i think it depends on the machine. There are also plenty of window's 8 threads (i think i started one too) that has some good trouble shooting info for getting fuddled up.

Admit it, Daleks, you just wanted windows 7 forever :P
