Saw Snowflame's post about how Katanas aren't meant to be held in one hand. And it got me thinking about Katanas, Bastard Swords and the like. In NWN2, the engine knows when you're wielding one of these weapons and it gives you the option of wielding just that weapon with both hands, doing 1.5x the damage. Would this be even remotely possible to script as a system? I think it'd be neat for the WMs and such to have an option like this, and with the parry system they wouldn't be gimped as badly as you might expect.

Weapon feats are hard-coded in NWN1 and can't be changed.

Would it require that? I mean, the game checks people to see if they're dual-wielding and awards them Two-Weapon Defense-based (and Parry) AC bonuses. Couldn't there be a placeholder feat that's given to everyone that checks to see if someone's got a 1h weapon in their main slot and nothing in their off-hand, and then awards them a damage bonus of 1.5x their regular damage?

You can't add new weapon feats either, unfortunately.

Would you need an extra feat? You'd need a script that checks if the weapon wielded is a katana or a bastard sword. If so, and the shield slot is empty, multiply the STR and Power Attack bonuses by 1.5
