Fixed!///!So I recently bought a better graphics card for my PC, the XFX R7770 with updated drivers and when I launch NWN I get a black screen and then it crashes. No cutscenes or logos or anything. Just as soon as I hit Play I get a blackscreen and then a crash. I'm having the exact same problem as this guy http://www.antiworld.biz/antiworld/viewtopic.php?&t=7983 and I'm sad to see that no one has posted a fix on it. Any suggestions? I been wanting to play for a long time and this problem is annoying. I've looked in my AMD Vision Engine Control Centre and it doesn't have anything to help me. Thanks guys.

Sounds like a driver issue. ATI cards have always been problematic with NWN1.
Try some of these fixes:

Hmm. So I deleted my drivers and installed the older pair. I can now launch the game! But there's a new problem. I'm getting less than 1 frame per second and it's not loading right, It's still unplayable :/ Even the menus have terrible low framerate.

something has gone terribly wrong
I can't change the resolution.

I'm guessing you tried lowering the video settings..? Including the advanced ones. Perhaps turn every option off and slider down until it begins to work.
Might also be wise to check your PC for overheating issues or things like that? Just a random guess. Or see if your game folder contains things like NVNshader mods with settings that cause graphics-related issues?
Edit: I see you're in the process of lowering the video settings then? Odd monitor resolution, haha, no wonder.

I've been playing other games fine, I got a new fan for my graphics card so it shouldnt overheat. I'll see if lowering the settings works.

You're playing at a resolution that doesn't even exist, until now I guess, so I assume that might just do the trick.
Also try the actual in-game settings under the video options menu, the "lights cast by shadows" or such tends to make people crash as well.

Lowered settings don't seem to be working. And it's not evne in game I'm getting the lag, it's also in the menus.

Make sure you set the game to only use one processor
So to all you guys still haveing the problem, just
change the nwnplayer.ini`s entry:
"Client CPU Affinity=-1" into -> "Client CPU Affinity=0"
you can also set it to: "Client CPU Affinity=1"
doesn`t matter what you choose, the effekt is the same:
Your NWN works nice as it should, if you tab out into
the Windows Taskmanager and look into affinity you`ll
notice that nwnmain.exe will belong to only one of CPU0
or CPU1, depending on what you have entered in the
nwnplayer.ini: "Client CPU Affinity=0" (CPU0) or
"Client CPU Affinity=1" (CPU).
Also make sure you have the following settings:
3D settings:
Multi-display/mixed GPU acceleration: single display
Texture Filtering - Trilinear opt: off
Threaded opt: off
Triple Buffering: off

I can't change the resolution.
nwn.ini
in this you can allways change the resolution
What Blue said, also would be usefull if we knew which kind of Catalyst you are using.
I am using 12.1 if i recall well and works fine, beside that by each crash or reset i need to restart the game cuz of visual bugs.
-
For me any Catalyst above 11.9 has made NWN behave erratically, though I've read there's some setting that can be applied in the CCC ('surface optimization' or something like that) in 12 and above for the NWN application to make it work properly.
However Catalysts under 12.3 don't fully support all 7000 series GPUs I think.
The resolution unavailability issue may be because you installed drivers that are too old and don't entirely work with your card.
Reinstalling newer drivers and experimenting with application settings for NWN in the CCC may help some but you may also be stuck between a rock and a hard place. Nvidia had a similar issue for a good while with its newer GTX series and drivers for NWN as well, unfortunately supporting games that are a decade old tends not to be a priority in driver/gpu manufacturing.

I had originally 12.6, then I got 12.1 because thats what supposedly works. Gonna edit that .ini and see what happens.

no dice :/

Fixed! Set compatibility settings to windows XP and that fixed it.
