I am no tech specialist, unfortunately. Considering how easy it seems, from the forum comments, for unscrupulous people to log in a someone else, what are the recommended tricks/tip to prevent someone from taking over a character? For example, where would I set a password for my character, or another function like CD key? Thank you.

In-game, there's an @command that allows you to set a password that must be entered should the account/character be accessed from a different CDkey (or maybe IP address. Thinks it's CDkey, though). If it's not, the character will be locked in place in the OOC area.
This was put in place because the Master Server does not properly check for passwords. It works quite well unless you happen to have a CDkey/IP that is used by multiple people.

Thank you! I've used the @ command now, and it's set, according to what I saw in-game. And since I don't use a CD Key or IP used by multiple people, my character should be safe. Thanks.

Actually it's @setpass or something like this (check your journal entry)

Done. I had used the journal to find the correct command, and set it. Thank you.

Also an ultra dumb question: Is there a way to see sent PMs? I see an outbox, but there's never anything in it...there's no sent box. I must be missing something, right?

When you write a pm if you check the "save a copy to my outbox" box, you will save it.
