Students and scholars, academics and professors, even janitors, are murmuring about Professor Cornell having come back to teaching his classes on Cultures of the Core. Apparently, despite his own faculty, that of History, is closed for a restoration, the Kartakan scholar has managed to recruit personally some students and to borrow (some claim rent, some others worse) a classroom in the faculty of Arcane Sciences.
Accompanied by his assistant mademoiselle Riegler, a Lamordian scholar, the Professor has literally entertained several students for his first class of this academic year. Former students greet him merrily, clearly having left to them a good deal of addiditional knowledge of the world. Nevertheless, his claims about the importance about the effects even of not true data on history, even more important than real data, always leave some more serious colleagues puzzled.
People in town wonder about his reknown "practical classes" which normally move a lot of students in the streets of Port-ŕ-Lucine. Some already speak of a half-serious and half-mocking Meistersinger contest to be held in the Theatre in the next weeks...

The Second Arcane Duelist's Tournament was held tonight. Last year's champion Anastacia Rotfurt did not defend her title, though she did attend; her reasons for not competing went unnoted. The tournament was won by a mysterious fire mage going by the name of Frank Alexandru, though she skirted elimination in the round robin stage by accidentally scalding half the audience with an errant Meteor Storm spell; the runners-ups were Fane "Smoky" Silivasi in second place and Zachary Sorrill in third. Although some commentators noted that Sorrill was the superior tactician of the competitors, a critical mistake in the final Free For All saw him lose out in the end despite having been unbeaten until that point.

Word spreads throughout the campus that adjunct curator Emmanuelle Beart has brought out long neglected and forgotten curious relics and foreign artifacts from the university archives of the Guignol Museum. She has placed them upon display. The exposition will run for one week. Student admission is free, faculty and staff are invited to pay a 1 solar donation and visitors are requested to pay a 2 solar entrance fee.

Information at this time is uncertain but it would appear a few items have gone missing from the exposition. University authorities and the Gendarmerie are investigating!

Upon conclusion of a university and Gendarmerie investigation it was discovered that some items of antiquity were stolen. These items include 1- antique silver brooch of the Foxgrove family, 1- original heretical text of Ezra, and 1- incomplete set of human teeth reportedly from a Lawgiver missionary of Blaustein. The investigation continues but no suspects are known at this time.

Gossip spreads throughout the academy about a peculiar person visiting it. The woman wore battle-worn steel armor dyed Red and Brass; which coincidentally is how she introduced to the various students and instructors she came across. What had the student gossip though, was the strange horns this woman had piercing her helmet. For a time there was slight panic as this woman also carried weapons on her back. After some time she was seen leaving the academy; no incidents reported.

[Those who study the "arcane sciences" at the University of Dementlieu are elated by news of the recent edict coming from the Palais Dirigeant, which they view as a relaxation on the stringent policies put into place by the Dementlieuse government weeks prior. Word is that the Vicomte de Roissy was the man responsible for it, which has helped the beleaguered nobleman enjoy a small rise in popularity, in a most unexpected place. It is said that Lord Balfour de Casteelle and his wife, Lady Cassilda de Casteelle, are actively helping to combat his poor reputation at home and abroad, telling those who view the Vicomte de Roissy in a dim light that his dismal standing in his home country of Richemulot is likely the result of some 'dreadful misunderstanding' that they 'know shall get resolved soon enough'.]

[Word spreads of a catastrophic malfunction in the enchanting device, Professor Blaise Acursius' pride and joy, resting in the basement of the University of Dementlieu's Arcane Sciences building -- the result ending in the untimely demise of several young, bright minds, as well as the librarian, and one of the spell-casting instructors. While the basement of the building is now safe and the machine is in the process of being repaired, the damage is done -- a handful of students have already chosen to withdraw from the program, deeming the practice of the arcane to be unsafe and bad for their physical health.
Professor Blaise Acursius claims that his prototype was somehow made unstable vis-a-vis a saboteur, and the president of the University, Lord Balfour de Casteelle, is quick to support the man and his claims. However, thee are more than a few in Port-a-Lucine who, upon hearing of what transpired, suggest that Professor Acursius and the University of Dementlieu is to blame, for storing such a dangerous object where young people are learning. Is there truly a saboteur, or is Professor Acursius trying to cover up his own mistakes, which have come with a heavy price, indeed.]

It appears after some time a member of the University faculty has returned after an extended leave of absence, a little older, a little more reserved.

A gnome, who's quick to introduce himself as Vitus Ambrosia, is seen poking around at the University grounds. Even though he doesn't seem to be fully aware of the local customs nor of the local language, he appears well spoken and polite.
Asked, the gnome expresses interest in studying mechanics and mathematics at the university, though he has also seen admiring the facility of the arcanes.

Some students of Université de Dementlieu worriedly gossip about something dark and shadowy assaulting one of their classmates while studying in the basement one morning. The staff have confirmed an incident occurred and investigations have begun, but assure everyone that the situation is under control and the concerned student is being cared for.

After a gunshot was heard across the bay, a pair of Gendarmes rushed to the docks by the Université. They were seen traversing the less-frequented roads of Port-au-Lucine that evening, carrying a body draped in cloth on a stretcher to the Gendarmerie.

[Gossiped about in the early morn by once-reveling students now regretting their decisions is how men dressed in black and gold uniforms, wearing tabards and brooches depicting gryphons, can be seen wheeling off a massive contraption made of polished brass and gold, with a great many glass lenses, away from the University's campus to parts unknown. A few students declare that they saw the same contraption resting within Professor Weyland's office within the Arcane Sciences' department building.]

In blood, name of an instructor scrawled one letter at a time upon the chalkboard in the Grande Salle de Conférence. The instrument used — a mutilated hand — left lying upon the floor in a bowl of blood.]

A Zherisian woman in a rich burgundy coat and matching feathered hat is seen attempting to secure medical attention from a specialist in respiratory organs, yet she is turned away from the Faculty of Medicine. She and her companion, a lady just as distinguished yet dressed in golds and whites, leave the University disappointed and take lodgings within the Manor.
Could this be an opportunity for an up and coming medic, perhaps?

During the early hours of the morning a collection of people carrying boxes enter the Medical building, led by a woman dressed as a plague doctor. One of the lower storage rooms are commandeered for an experiment involving rats, steam and something foul smelling. Many dried aromatic flowers are hung over the door, replaced regularly by a bespectacled medical graduate. She tends to the experiment regularly, taking copious notes.

Following the postings of a radically conservative political ideology, Caporal of the Gendarmerie Nationale, Marcel de Renault enters the university premises, and, to an empty lecture hall, delivers what seems to be an entire lecture. The chalkboard is riddled with shorthand thoughts pertaining to the subject matter and for the few days until the lecture hall is cleaned, a bundle of the same notes seems to have been scattered across the room as if thrown in a rage.

Shouts, the chant of spellcasting, and the clash of arms were heard briefly from the grounds in the late hours following Mademoiselle Barozzi's law lecture. A short time later, the Gendarme were seen hauling the corpse of a young man away from the campus.

Such a job offering isn't advertised -- that's just not how important things are done in Port-a-Lucine -- but rumour would spread amongst the legal profession that the State is on the look out for an ambitious prosecutor, for an upcoming trial... prospects should contact Lieutenant Dorian de Sauvre at the Gendarmerie Nationale. Needless to say, those without the right to practice law in Dementlieu need not apply.

[A common sight about the Facultč de Driot is the blonde performer Alisaie Goulet. She often is seen peeling through the various libraries on the bottom floor before retiring to a study room for hours. She never leaves with any of the books but her presence has become a common sight]

[Word spreads like wildfire of a hooded figure wearing Akiri funerary wrappings stepping out from the sarcophagus featured in Musee Guignol's latest exhibit. Some speak of a paid actor, while others speak of the unnatural chill that was pervasive in the museum's lobby as it stepped forth. Larissa Vouivre, sweating and accompanied by some Red Vardo Traders, are seen with a remarkably similar crate, more battered than before, returning to Port-a-Lucine.
With considerable difficulty the crate is turned over to the bank for storage. Of what it is, or why it has returned there is no word.

Strange happenings in the dead of night on University grounds. Students glancing out from the windows of those buildings nearby the main campus gate report heavy fighting and spells cast, but come morning, no bodies are discovered, and only a small trail of blood, no more than two or three injured individuals at best.
Said blood can be traced towards the Arcane Sciences building, where students report a group, battered and bruised, lead by dr. Medb Neasa towards the auditorium. Whatever transpires there, the group departs by afternoon on the following day, while the young lecturer herself heads for the faculty meeting room, quite possibly to explain herself.

It's said he asked about 'Monstrophy' and 'Old classes' in curious tones, speaking in an approximation of Mordentish so inexpert that it'd make any linguistics student faint.
