Try to run from the nwnmain.exe   -   Maybe the launcher is not working.

Had the same problem man.

You need to delete the Old windows install. Install the new one. Otherwise, you run on the admin files, which are locked. Do that, and you'll be good to go.

Had the same problem on my new machine. Won't let me use the shortcut it makes for you, so I just copied a shortcut of the "nwmain" that you can get to through the NWN folder and it seems to launch fine now.

Not sure what Heretic ment by Old windows install, anyways, its a new computer, its ever only been one installation of windows on it.

And I'm allready administrator, didnt help either.

Just a thought, maybe update your directx? I've had this problem with other games.

Even if you are in administrator, you still have to run it as administrator.

To do this, right-click your NWN shortcut, and do this:

If that doesn't work, many on the forum have said that running it in compatability mode works too.

To do this, right-click your shortcut, select properties, and go to the compatability tab. Should look like this:

Select XP service pack 2, hit okay. Then run the game in administrator mode like before.

It's also possible that the shortcut is fucked, and skipping the launcher like Peasant said might help, after doing the above.

Does your new PC have a dual or quad core processor? If so, you should make sure NWN is only running on one of them. I know that when it encounters multiple cores, it doesn't know what do to. I think you can tell it to use 1 core in task manager.

Also, make sure you have Directx, can get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=0cef8180-e94a-4f56-b157-5ab8109cb4f5

It's very puzzling that it shows no error message. Try messing with the nwn ini file to start it in windowed mode or so. I run windows 7 and have no problems with nwn, except when I upgraded to latest ATI drivers but still that would give me an error message.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted out.

No error message? Check the Event Viwer tool to make sure there aren't errors. By the way, from what kind of release did you install your NWN? I mean, the first releases, with many CDs, or the DVD with the complete stuff? Has been said that the recent DVDs install and run more compatible with the recent OSs.

when you run as admin, make sure you are in your nwn folder, and try all of the launch options available. I think theres 2 or 3 (one of them bypasses the videos or something) and only one worked for me.

I've done some testing and it seems its the 1.69 update that screws things up. I can play normal nwn, SoU and so on, but as soon as I update to 1.69 the game doesnt work anymore.  :?

I heard somewhere that an issue with Windows 7 and old games is that Windows 7 don't have DirectX 9 installed by default. Try getting it from here:

Your running windows 7, which bit, 32 or 64? Im running 64 and have had a few issues with certain games (allthough not nwn), I have two programme files folders in C drive, one called C:/Programme Files X86, and one just called Programme files. A few games isntalled to X68 wont run, so if thats the case ininstall it and install it to an entirly new folder.

Edit:

Apparently the X84 folder is for use for 32 bit programmes, 64 bit progs should install to the default programme files folder automaticly. Which catagory games fall into is beyond me though.

How I defeated Windows 7 and triumphed

1. Find the driver listings for your graphic card. In my case, the set previous to 10.2 which is 10.1
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx
2. download the previous set of drivers to your pc
3. right click on desktop, select screen resolution
4. go to advanced settings in that window
5. select the properties button next to your adapter type (video card)

6. select driver from the tab, select uninstall at the bottom
You are now without video drivers. Your resolution will default to ugliness.

7. install the previous set of drivers that you downloaded
it'll probably prompt you to reset before it takes effect, but do so in any case

10.2 catalyst drivers for radeons suck.

Nonna had a problem when she reinstalled NWN on her Windows 7 computer.  Apparently, she solved the problem by logging in as the administrator on her computer.  It seems to have worked.

We are just worried that by doing that it'll change things and make it unable to play anything newer. Yes I know nothing about what im doing :P

I was just wondering something, could my computer being a quad core have anything to do with my problems?

Its doubtfull a quad core computer will most likely make your game choppy but shouldnt stop it from running. That being said I am running a quad core and have never had any issues with framerates.

I've got a 6 core and was very surprised that I didn't even have to click in compability mode to get my nwn to work. Got latest version of 64 bit Ultimate Windows 7.

Windows 7 rules! You should all make sure to either update windows or make sure you've got the latest graphic drivers / your fancy new cards are compatible with nwn.
