Title: Port-à-Lucine - Ste. Mere des Larmes
Post by: marlewebber on September 13, 2009, 07:01:50 PM
A delicately hand addressed envelope appears overnight, tacked to some crumbling outer wall of the ruins at Ste. Mere des Larmes.  It swells with some greater content within.

Word spreads about the arrest of that unusual Ezrite woman that stands vigil in front of the re-known Stained Glass around La Grande Cathedral in Port-a-Lucine. Citizens watch as the woman cloaked in mist by some esoteric trick is taken to the Gendermarie.

Just as soon as the proceedings of the latest trial are completed, a freed Marle Winterlass can once more be seen praying some nights, before the stained glass Image of Ezra outside the old cathedral ruins.

Within the sacred and mysterious cathedral of Ste. Mere des Larmes, the confession of the heretical Marle Winterlass is conveyed by word of mouth as visiting Ezrites from Barovia meet with the local Torets. It is said that the defense attorney had argued that Marle was too unhealthy and delusional to be placed upon the stand and questioned by the prosecution, but that the Judge denied the unreasonable request. It is said that after the prosecutor demanded that Marle answer the question of whether or not she was guilty of stealing the artifacts, that as blood dripped from her nose, that she yelled her confession, though a twisted and heretical confession it was. Marle shouted that none present can judge her, that none are holy enough. She declared that it was Ezra herself that had possessed her on the day of the criminal offense, and that it was the Goddess through Marle's body who had stolen the artifacts on that day.

Clarisse Lavoie is seen often in the Cathedral. She seems to spend a good bit of her time praying underneath the statined glass mirror, as if she is asking Ezra for forgiveness for something.

Amidst the ruins of Ste. Mere des Larmes, the shrouded woman may again be glimpsed on worship days, listening to the prayer service from outside the Stained Glass Artifact.  Her arrival and departure are followed closely by the Mists.

The recently nominated Templar Commander Gaia Armont from Caina-Levkarest (Borca), involved somehow in the scandal surrounding the case of murders caused by her sister Baroneasa Luciana Armont, who, on the other hand, is still waiting for a process and an execution, has been recently missing from Ste.Mere des Larmes. Nasty gossip of course relate her disappearance to a fast and easy escape strategy off the shame. Well informed people, though, claim she is in mission for Ezra Church in Mordentshire. From the corners and the shadows a word is whispered and never to aloud: Inquisition.

Recently, many report seeing the so called Knight of Song taking prayer in the church. Some have even heard him sing hymns for Ezra early in the morning.

[After the dead have been recorded, bodies have been moved to be claimed upon the rise outside of the Cathedrale St. Mere de Larmes. The bodies that are not being claimed by family are left to be prepared for final rites in order to minimize plague. Zidonne Lefebvre can be seen orchestrating this initiative with Mareta Segrethur.]

[Every now and then one can find Yvette Sallembier praying devoutly in the Cathedral. She does not stay long as she leaves once she finishes her prayer. However, she comes often to the church, far more then other members of the gentry.]

Roland Poulin, of the gendarme, has been visiting the Cathedral almost daily to pray before the stained glass. On Mercredi, he attends the morning sermon in the company of the Vicomte Marceaux, and on Dimanche, he attends mass with the widowed Celeste d'Espivant and her manservant. From time to time, he brings three of his four sisters along. They seem to be rather uneasy in the presence of strangers...

[In the early hours of the afternoon, a quiet ceremony took place in the wide halls of the cathedral - a union of matrimony between the Baron de Beauvieres, Mathieu Laurier, and a relatively unknown woman going by the name of Roxanne Moore, claiming to be of Mordentish origins. In attendance were only the Baron's sisters, the last remnants of the Laurier household past the tragic deaths that occurred some weeks past.

Among the gossipers and spinsters the speculations are rife; the new Baroness' probable common birth along with doubts to her alleged heritage, and the usual banter and rumor-mongering around the events prior... though the reason for such a hurried, surreptitious event remains anyone's guess.]

The bells toll at Ste. Mere des Larmes, calling the Faithful of Ezra to Fifth Day. Promises of a miracle go unfulfilled as the Window of Ste. Mere des Larmes does not heal Bastion Joan Secousse of the Third Revelation. After feverish murmuring, Bastion Secousse proclaims Warden Leonie Callie as her successor, going against her previous proclamation naming Toret Armand Pineau her heir. She then passes at the age of 96 in front of a congregation of Ezrites and curious onlookers. In the moments after, an earthquake shakes the city of Port-a-Lucine.

Lately Yvette Sallembier can be seen going to the Cathedral roughly once a day; sometimes she is seen going multiple times per day. She prays quietly, though those walking by the stained glass within the Cathedral would be able to hear her pray.

Every day without fail, Yvette Sallembier is in the Cathedral praying by the stained glass, and more often then not it is multiple times per day. Those passing by would hear the woman praying various prayers often rather devotedly. Beyond her constant praying however, Yvette does seem to wish to speak to an anchorite of the Dementlieu See.

Warden Durand recently gave Fifth Day Services following the death of Helene du Donjon who was found just outside the Cathedral doors.  He had this to say and the gist of this serves as general advice being given to Ezrites (especially defenseless NPCs) who come to Ste Mere des Larmes in these troubled times.

Quote
"I fear Port-a-Lucine is no longer safe for what happened to Helene and to others.  But we shall fear no death in body for our soul’s faith in Ezra is eternal.  The Legion of Night is within the Heart of Man and the Legion is among us.  Let us reflect on this."

"We are blessed to have the Gendarmerie.  To take on a role as a protector of your people is as Ezra would do, it is a holy role.  The Gendarmerie hold themselves to the highest standard in the Core.  I urge all Ezrites to assist and cooperate with the Gendarmerie in these times."

"We are blessed to have each other.  I urge all Ezrites to protect each other by traveling in small groups.  Do not go out alone as Helene did.  Beware the night for the opportunities it provides criminals, even in areas we once thought safe."

"We are blessed to have reason.  I have seen other peoples are held back by superstitions while we can see the way of the world and adapt.  It is our greatest strength.  I encourage all Ezrites to speak to those they trust about their experiences traveling the Core."

The Warden has also been pointing out lately that the concept of the Legion of Night living within the Heart of Man is a concept from The Fourth Book of Ezra and it is curious that the late Bastion Secousse did not seek to correct this herself when she wrote The Third Book of Ezra.

The lone figure of the troubled Artist, Lily Ryan is seen entering the Cathedral. She heads straight to the window of Ezra without a word or a smile, and kneels before the stained glass, locked in silent prayer for many hours, begging Ezra for some unknown mercy.

[Early in the evening on the 7th of Février, two figures enter the dilapidated Cathedrale. They cross row after row of pews before turning left, and entering the sidechamber containing the famed stained glass portrait of Ezra. They chatter, quietly, as they sit together, and when they at last part, three lit candles are left beside the altar.]
