Title: Neverwinter Nights Overrides
Post by: Midnight on February 07, 2006, 10:35:18 AM
Overrides are optional downloads that you can use to touch up certain aspects of the game. Simply click on the bolded text for the links, and place all the downloads extracted in your "override" folder located in Neverwinter Nights/NWN/override on your C: drive (or which ever drive holds Neverwinter Nights for you).

Ravenloft POTM specific:

- Sky Boxes (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Textures.Detail&id=62)

- Custom GUI (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=textures.Detail&id=61)

Other:

- All Voicesets
(http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=hakpaks.Detail&id=5043)

- Alternate Combat Animations v3.0 (this is a new release based on the previous release by Ragnarok_mr4  - and very nicely done) (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=hakpaks.Detail&id=6468)

- Bioware Children Heads for Halflings (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=models.Detail&id=353)

- CEP Heads (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Models.Detail&id=338)

- Colorized Spell Icons (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.detail&id=1020)

- Death Mask (replaces skull helm) (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Models.Detail&id=346)

- Hands (replaces biowares "fists of doom") (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Models.Detail&id=124)

- New Forest Floors (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Textures.Detail&id=53)

- Redone Weapon Textures (more realistic) (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Textures.Detail&id=43)

- Robe Update (for female dresses) (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Models.Detail&id=206)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other downloads for Neverwinter Nights.

These don't go in the override folder (you can place them where ever you like), they are just a couple of additions to aid your game play.

- NDubyaConfig (This is a game editor that will allow you to get rid of the intro movies, access "Windowed mode" letting you play NWN in a window as opposed to full screen, as well as many other features.) (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=259)

- Neverwinter Nights Grimoire v3.0 (a complete guide to Neverwinter Nights with detailed explanations of Classes, Skills, Feats, etc.) (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=729)

One of those overdes messes up the female robes really badly, and I dont think the fix will cure it, I cant remember which one though... the hands is the one most worth downloading.

The new emotes breaks the cloaks on females, they look crooked, messes with the hat too. Same does the override fighting style.

I´ve heard somewhere that there might be an update in the works on the fighting moves so they work with the cloaks.. just a rumor though..

##Final Edit, here is the correct link to the overide version (previously I had found the hak version)##

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=994

This is an overide set which alters the default neverwinter nights spell icons to the classic Baldures Gate 2 (and Throne of Bhaal) icons instead. Odviously this will overide the colourised spell icons. I use this myself, no problems with it. Please note the screenshot shows also an alterd 'border' (the GUI), this isnt inluded in the overdies it is just specificly the spell icons.

Alas, they do not work in PoTM, it must be something to do with one of the required haks  :(, which makes me very sad because they are nice looking. However being overides they will work in single player and most of the other modules up and running.

The skeletons look ok, with the glowing ones obviously standing out. But those zombies look pretty good. Especially since some still have hair and whatnot, making them a little more creepy.

Yeah, the glowing green flames are annoying but if you know how to edit the .mdl files in notepad, you can get rid of those emitters on the skeletons leaving them with only the glowing eyes (the eyes are part of the texture, not the model itself).

IMPORTANT: When using the zombies, do NOT copy the 2da file o your override folder. The silvery effect without the 2da is barely noticeable anyway and you'd have to merge that 2da with the one used on the server.

Not half as much as when I see Elves, halflings, gnomes, dwarves, half orcs, running around with Katanas.  Rather like my Area weapons to be relegated to folk from that area.  But then, I would also like to see an option that allows two handed use of a bastard sword or a katana so one can fight more correctly with them.

Eh, Fencing's okay.  It's a decent animation set if you're into two-weapon fighting.  But my biggest complaint about Fencing is its limited animations; attacks with your off-hand weapon are executed with an animated strike from your main weapon.  And it looks pretty off-putting to see your character stab with a bastard sword and deal a short sword's worth of damage.  :?

But I think the Kensai animations are more my thing...and, in my opinion, they're better than the Fencing set.  Especially when it comes to two-weapon fighting.  :)

Sure, Kensai's not without its flaws.  Shields are one of Kensai's weak points.  Why block with the shield's edge when you have an entire face to work with?  Why raise the shield to shoulder-height and leave your abdomen undefended?

But the good news?  Kensai has a nice mix of attack animations.  There's even a hopping 360° slash which comes up from time to time!  :D

Yeah...a still snapshot can't do the 360° attack justice.  You'd just have to see it with your own eyes.  :?

Improved models:

Skeletons & lich: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Creatures.Detail&id=598 (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Creatures.Detail&id=598)

Zombies: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Creatures.Detail&id=605 (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Creatures.Detail&id=605)
Truth be told, I don't really like the new zombies.  They're too skeletal and too "busy".  I guess I'll have to hunt down the override's files and delete them, because I'd rather have my old zombies back...even if I have yet to get over the ones missing half their heads.  :?

Greetings DMs. I have just found a Samurai helm style from the NWN vault. I am not sure if it is an actual helm, or a possible design for one of the crafting options, although I am hoping the second. I would like to request that this small file be added to the server since there are those that play some Rokuma characters, and that there really is no helm that suits the Rokuma. http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=hakpaks.Detail&id=2599#commentmarker (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=hakpaks.Detail&id=2599#commentmarker)

Took me a little while to relocate this, otherwise I would have included it in my post above, but something many people should enjoy is 'clobber'.  In short Clobber is a nice little .exe that you use to launch NWN.  When you close NWN clobber renames your log-file into year-month-day-xx format (where xx is an increasing number based on the number of log files for that current date).

While clobber is a damn good bit of kit it does have one limitation, that I remember, as Clobber only renames the file when NWN is closed, should you have to restart your PC (due to a freeze, or whatever) without closing down NWN, you will need to remember to manually rename the log file.  Finally, there used to be a log viewer program called 'Cleave' floating about, but one of the NWN patches murdered it.

Wow, pretty awesome overrides, after getting a few of these I've brought my totals up to 2gb of portraits and about 300mb of overrides... I won't be able to take a good look at them until tomorrow, though, I'm really looking forward to seeing what's in that portrait pack.

Here's a link to a thread on another forum which has a lot of different overrides, some of them are the same as what we have here but there's a few I recommend getting, like the goblins (even though there's hardly any goblins here), and the imps/mephits, the weapon VFX is pretty awesome, too, but the acid one is bugged and shows up as lightning, so you'll need to delete the acid override (I may be wrong).
http://www.escapefromunderdark.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23789

Also, here is a pretty awesome one, it's for going into 1st person view and looking up. I primarily use it for looking up, occasionally I will go into 1st person view if I'm an archer. If you're going into 1st person view, press the * key on your number pad to go into driving camera view, that way when you turn (using WASD) your camera will also turn with you.

Does anyone know of the override that allows you to unlock all the portaits already in game?

So.. for example the portrait Mad Dok in the Drain uses or other portraits that would be visible to all (without a .hak or override) and already in the NVN game, just not accessible for players unless you got some override or .hak to unlock them.
If anyone knows the name of that which I talk about or can toss a link, greatly appreciated!

Has this been posted yet? An Arelith update (thanks Winter83 for telling me) with updated textures, etc.

It just makes things look a bit better, although it might dip your performance so don't use it if your comp is slow.
Includes things like the colored spellicons, better textures for a ton of things and more slight visual upgrades.
(Still have to download and try it myself at this point, but it appears to be a very good graphical fix up.)

Quote
- The ground on many tilesets is a lot more bumpy, and I noticed a few things can get lost underneath it actually. There's also quite a few places where the walkmeshes are funky, and I shoot up on the z-axis, or can't select a walkable piece of ground that should be walkable. Its not a deal-breaker though.

-I usually like to play with "Never hide 2nd story tiles", but being in the forests with this override is impossible that way. There's just too much stuff in the way.

-There are quite a LOT of tile based objects that are different with the overrides. Meaning, trees that aren't actually there, giant ferns, etc. While this is visually great, you have to keep that in mind with your RP. Be careful with *Leans against the tree and rests*, theres a good chance nobody else sees it.

Do keep things like that in mind, the reason why I might choose to stick to the older settings actually.

Thanks, I was looking for a "seperate version" of some things included.
This one offers the more original settings, with a slight graphical upgrade.. which is exactly what I wanted! Thanks.
(In short: No obstrusions or plants / hills / other changes that would possibly impact RP only clientside.. as in walking into a tree which is invisible to others)

And does anyone happen to know of an override or whatever that makes you adjust your UI elements' size?
(Scale your inventory, menu, bars or adjust them in some way.. because they appear as miniscule with my new bigass resolution laptop)

Are you tired of the color red? Try blue: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Textures.Detail&id=210692&id=163 (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Textures.Detail&id=210692&id=163)

See the Ravenloft GUI in the all-new BLUE color! Goes great with other BLUE things!

All right, I decided to create a recolor of the Ravenloft GUI that was posted at the beginning of this thread, and it's blue! Other than that, it's the same.
If people are interested in other recolors, let me know (or do them yourself using the Color Balance tool and Gimp.)
Credit for the creation of the original goes to S[special character I don't feel like finding]ren and the PotM team, and all that.

Alright, always make sure to give due credits then. I know I would personally hate my work being passed around without any mention of the source. Sadly, Shemsu-Heru haven't given credit to the authors either though :S

It's a very nice head though. But I recommend people only install overrides that only improve and not change the structural content (like hair style, foliage or whatever) of something as it generates issues in terms of roleplaying out details.

I took the liberty of combining several improved model overrides and compiling them into a single download, but more importantly I only added the improvements that should not cause any visual conflict with the original aesthetic of the game. If you want to slightly improve the default models, without straying too far from the vanilla look of the game and without perceiving things drastically different than those that do not have the same overrides installed, then this override may be for you.

Improved_models override.rar (http://www.mediafire.com/download/bloa2lny58z2e51/Improved_models%20override.rar)
(Click the link to download, extract the downloaded files to the override folder in your game directory)

Includes the following:

  • Improves about 9 existing vanilla heads, does not add any new content
  • Includes the hand update for the broader body type as well (male only)
  • Other (body)parts from the overrides were intentionally left out for better consistency with the vanilla and CEP content

All credit goes to the original authors of the mods. Unfortunately due to the disappearance of IGN's NWVault I can no longer provide the links back to the original mods.

  • Improved pelvis model (male only)

Think you could put up some screenshots?

Added links to the mods I used (parts of) in the compilation, all of those pages should contain screenshots.
EDIT: Unfortunately had to remove the links, they stopped working when IGN took down their NWVault website.

I mostly opted out of using new leg and arm models, because the creator did not alter the tattoo or clothed versions.
(If you do install those you get some very assymetrical looking characters and other visual conflicts with the CEP.)

I'm actually in the process of changing all of the ravens in-game to use Izk the Mad's new raven models from the Community Content Challenge: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Hakpaks.Detail&id=199387&id=8095

Keep this in mind, but if you happen to play on other servers as well this override is for you.
I've also noticed that familiars still use the old raven model, so it does have some use still.
And I have now also included an update for the wereraven in the same way as I did the raven.

  Raven texture override (http://www.mediafire.com/download/w65qc2btv1hqxlh/Raven_Texture_Override.rar)

Simply copy these .TGA files to the override folder under your Neverwinter Nights game directory.
Ravens are now much more realistically coloured and will no longer appear as purple eagles.

Now also includes an update for wereravens, who will no longer resemble giant blackbirds.

Which of these Overrides are mostly suggested?

I don't want to make a mess and I would like to use the best ones to start.

A bit of a vague question, but if you simply make a back-up of your override folder you can't really go wrong.
That way you can always revert the changes. Carefully reading the page of the mod beforehand also helps.

I'd at the very least suggest one of the mods that improves the hand models, I think that's a must have.

In my experiance the only ever override that has given me any trouble is the cave roof override. Everything else has been problem free. The override I would recommend though is the Baldures Gate 1 and 2 spell casting sounds. However they will replace one another, so its suggested you mix and match the ones you like and choose a mixture of the two.

Overrides replace things clientside, primarily exchanging stuff like UI, textures, sounds, models or animation.
So virtually any overrides works for this server, given the content is actually used somewhere on the server.

Just make sure to have a back-up of your override folder and it should be safe to try out any overrides you want.

Most just cause old machines to cry. Be sure to get the sky override and the pictures and music from the downloads section of this board because they are the ones worth having.

Also I recommend the Rural Trees, and Rural Trees winter, its a few pages back and has two great big screen shots as a preview, as ive said before avoid the natural cave roof as in some rare circumstances it has cased my game to crash, so I avoid that one at all costs.

I don't know how I could play without these:

Natural Caves
 (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Hakpaks.Detail&id=6604)

Rural Trees
 (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Hakpaks.Detail&id=63095&id=7802)
The trees can be slightly taxing on older systems though.

Rural Trees, Winter Version
 (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Hakpaks.Detail&id=7956)

As NWVault is down, does anyone have any of those still?

Hello.

I'm using the hands override for ages and never had a problem with them. Now, I don't see them in this server, or in others using CEP. But they work fine in a server without the CEP. Can anyone help me in understanding what is going on? Is there a CEP-specific version I'm lacking? If so, where can I find it?

This is exactly the one override I think is hard to play without; the default hands are just horrible.

Well, there are natural hand models in the actual hack pack, just keep on shifting through the hands and you'll find them.   Everyone else's box hands are still boxy though.

Miuo's Override GUI & Goodies

Overrides (https://www.dropbox.com/s/l1b7fd0yflmueqd/Miuo%27s%20Override%20Pack.zip?dl=0)

As you can see in the image, iv altered the original GUI some. I used the BG2 themed GUI, but i found a few things in it i disliked, so i tweaked it.

* Removed the bg2's compass and made it the default simple one
* Removed the bg2's map pins because they were poorly done, replaced them with ravenlofts map pins.
* Removed the standered red HP bar and replaced it with a world of aenea's HP Bar
* Added the NWN 2 spell icons
* Added the tiny effect icons (Allows you to see more buffs on you)

I also have the NWN2 spell icons in there as well, and some others that improve the experience.

It's much simpler to just create a brand new thread.

Both of the old threads (there are two or three different ones, one in the Server & Community Discussion, this one, as well as the sticky in the Tech Discussion section) are absolutely littered with broken links ever since IGN's Neverwinter Vault site went down. And a lot of outdated posts.

Iv updated my override to have a new halfling head, that replaces the 161 option. The new heads are on the left, the one they replaced is on the right.

Cep Head Override: This was something i made up to have a more appealing head option that overrides one of the current head options (Elf Head: 022, Halfling Head: 161) Its mostly for personal preference, though anyone can download it to use for them selves or to see it on others. Would suggest renaming your current "cep2_top_v24.hak" something else like "cep2_top_v24_old.hak" so you can easily stop using it when ever you want to. (Hopefully when the head gets added as a official option).

Spoiler: What the Heads Look Like • show

Edited: The Halfling lips and eyes are tied to tattoo colors

If updated the link, as iv included something new. Femake halflings will no longer be forced to use giant meat paws! Iv taken a set of elven hands, and shrunk them to be small dainty lady halfling hands. The hands override the first hand option.

Here's what I'll do, you guys evaluate some of the posts from both threads, get ready to post a bunch of useful thinks, and then I'll make a master "override post" someplace appropriate. You'll know when you'll see it. I'll also link to the old ones so they are still be to be mined for clues.
