Title: Server Wise Night-time Forecasts
Post by: Impotent Collateral on October 21, 2008, 09:13:45 PM
More nitpicking on DM use of the shout channel..

I feel like the (great) atmosphere descriptions provided by the likes of Heretic and formerly, Macabre, are great, in theory. However, I feel like they would have more impact if the DMs went into a (preferably outdoor) area and emoted this, when lots of Pcs were around. The Shout Channel emotes do add to dynamic, but it feels more personal to the player when done right next to them, it'd make people feel really involved.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I do both, its just that Jefffon, tends to be a loner more often than not.  Sometimes PC's are just scattered. ;)

Heretic's server wide narrative as Old Night awakens, or the morning's arrival for another arduous day of labor for the villagers, serves an important mood setter.  Midnight used to be really good at it, using nice descriptive language.  I always appreciate it.

When a dm uses the shout channel, they are doing it to either set the mood as Heretic often does, or they are giving a little ooc nudge in the spirit of inclusion, such as when the Count recently came to the Market Place.

I guess I don't feel very immersed because:

A) I'm a PART of Old Night's horrors
B) My PC is inherently a loner, yes
