Title: Mobats
Post by: Bad_Bud on June 25, 2008, 05:32:13 AM
Are ridiculous.

The opposite of erroneous and ineffective.  More like overeffective + no exp + bad loot + too many spawn in a swarm.

Mobats are killers.  Ask Auska about her two meetings with them, both of which ended with Dribo carrying her back to vallaki.

Can't say about the XP on them, since Dribo doesn't get dungeoning XP from non uber creatures anymore.

They do get some scary DR for a monster from Zelda.

Crap, and I lost my talon blade.  I didn't know they had DR as well.  That makes them even dumber.

I'd like to know why a mobat is about five times harder to kill than a werebat, and also why they come in swarms, simply to guard a bleak cap or 20 coins.

They have an Awesomeness rating of +15 from being taken from a Legend of Zelda game... despite being like, the second weakest creature in the game..

Should have flaming Mobats, and make THOSE the killer uber ones *nods sagely*

Were-mobat.

The spawning of were-mobats is what keeps crashing the server.  NWN can't handle it.

I actually kind of like a challenge. :?

Weremobats are the only creature that can survive a round house kick from Chuck Norris.

They die about five seconds later, but still.

They're not Zelda monsters...they're old school 1st edition AD&D monsters. :P

They shouldn't have DR...where are these uber-mobats being encountered? :?

That new cave between the bear cave in the woods south of Vallaki and the deep mines.  Sometimes it's umber hulks or hooked horrors, but the worst are mobats!

I only met the hulks once... so much XP!

Hmm, can't confirm any form of damage reduction on them. Is this still in effect?

Haven't had much luck finding the mobats.  Those caves get massive amounts of traffic and they just don't respawn fast enough.

I've never noticed any, since if they had DR they should blow through ghostly visage and don't.

They spawn at the vamp caves on the high spawn setting. Third bat spawn after the carrion and doom bats fill their cycles. I've also seen them down in the mines, I think. Though it's rare. I think they must need the uber-umberhulk spawn to appear there.

I've seen them in the lower caverns along with the carrion bats.  They didn't seem that tough to me.  Then again, my char is one of the uber-godlike clerics.

Mobats are supposed to be tough anyway.  Would be nice if they were worth XP though.

The doombats actually seem harder to me, for some reason.

Doombats might have more hp, I'm not sure.  But the doombat howl doesn't do anything.  The mobat howl stuns you, though.

Mobats are pretty tough for an apparent lowbie spawn(they must be lowbie, for the XP they give me at level 7). I suggest toning them down, since if I can't manage fully buffed, bearformed, with my bear companion, I doubt even a party of lowbies could manage. Adriana's will save is pretty high for her level, so she didn't have to worry much about the howls, but imagine.. levels 4-5 have about.. 7 will? maybe a little bit more. They'd get stunned like, every time they howl(and they can get pretty spammy) and just die. There's nothing wrong with a challenging dungeon, but it's kinda boring when you just get slaughtered.

Maybe they should be toned down a bit, or be worth more xp if they're going to stay this tough.

Mobats are lowbie spawn? I've been warned about being careful with them with my levels 10-12...

I think they are mid-level spawn, but just poor XP.

They're a midbie spawn, and a level 7 doesn't even get somewhat decent XP from them? I'd say something is pretty wrong there.

Eh, they hit hard, and that howl is annoying, but they do go down in a handful of blows. For the Devs: Is XP decided based on a calculation of their abilities or is it possible to just give it any number of XP?

Honestly, I'd fight mobats all day and get crap xp, than face off against a pushover like a rust monster any day with my higher levels. Sometimes CR, XP, and the monster don't adequately correlate to what you are facing.
