Unable to find files to unload EE Haks into
« on: May 30, 2018, 10:54:34 PM »
Hey, so a few weeks ago I asked on discord but didn't get any help. I installed EE NWN and cannot find where it was downloaded to. It isn't in Documents, or in C/NWN. I just can't find the folders. Did anyone else have this issue? I am not able to install the haks to do any testing until this is located, either. Should I uninstall and reinstall someplace specific or does some one know where this is all hiding? After that, will my overrides/portrait folder (since these are huge) be compatible and just transferred over to the new files? Or is it hiding in the old file directory? Thanks

Check under C:/Program Files(x86)/steam/steamapps/common . For clarity, it should be noted that (at least in my copy, which is located in C:/user/documents) the folder makes no reference to Enhanced Edition, and is simply called "Neverwinter Nights."

Barring that (and assuming your game was purchased through Steam), you can go into your Steam Library, right-click on the title of the game, select Properties and, under the Local Files tab, select Browse Local Files. This will pull up the location of your download.

If you're game is through Beamdog, well
sorry! :(
Me miserable! which way shall I fly
Infinite wrath and infinite despair?
Which way I fly is hell; myself am hell;
And in the lowest deep a lower deep,
Still threat’ning to devour me, opens wide,
To which the hell I suffer seems a heaven.

Its as easy with Beamdog. Just lunch their client. You should have the options on the upper right side of the window.

Remember though the HAK files need to be installed in your "documents/nwn" folder.
Best Regards!

I purchased it through beamdog, not steam. There is no "documents/nwn" folder. I can't find it. I can't find where the installation went at all, which is the problem, so i am unable to install the hak files period.

Try doing a windows search of the term "nwn" and it should sniff out the missing folder.

Better yet, use the command line on a shortcut to the beamdog EE executable:

Then

create a shortcut of this, and then in the shortcut, add on hte end: -userDirectory "C:\path\to\user files"

As in, "C:\path\to\nwmain.exe" -userDirectory "C:\path\to\user files"

Make sure the "user directory" is set to a location that has the hak, tlk, music, and override folders.

Yeah none of this is working. I found the file you're mentioning, but I am confused how to proceed. Do I start fresh with a new override/portraits/haks/module/evertyhing folders? Do I copy my existing nwn files to the new ones at this location? Is there a secret I am missing? how exactly did other beamdog downloaders do this?

Update, I found the files after a lot of convoluted steps.

Now, I've dowloaded the launcher although I am not 100%, or even 50% sure what to do with it. I unzipped it to the documents/neverwinter folder.

I have downloaded the haks and copied files over from the standard edition to EE, but I am missing a file, it seems. Any ideas?

I am running into the same issue, though I was testing stuff (super technical terms here) out yesterday on the EE client.

Edit: I am going to try to use the standalone launcher to connect/etc.

Edit 2: After updating the launcher, I was able to connect properly!

Of note, if you are running the EE client through Steam, there is a secondary directory created in Documents (on Windows). The hak/tlk/cep files go in this directory, not in the Steam directory.

New player, trying to log in, but having issues here!

Of note, if you are running the EE client through Steam, there is a secondary directory created in Documents (on Windows). The hak/tlk/cep files go in this directory, not in the Steam directory.

Yes, this is what I've done, but I still get the "could no t load the module - Missing required HAK file". I've subscribed through Steam for both the CEP and Ravenloft haks, also downloaded and installed manually...
I've also tried to use the NWN Launcher, but that doesn't work at all for me, even when I give it admin permissions to run. (cx freeze: python error or something!?)

Any more tips on what to try next?!

Thanks!

Edit: I asked on Discord and was told that the steam installations need to be done one at a time, so obviously the second one didn't run. It's all fixed now! Thanks!

Also using Beamdog and not Steam.

I can say that the folder is not called "hak" anymore. It is  ..\data\hk
Fairly sure the tlk files go in the ..\data folder but they may go in ..\data\hk as well, I did both

Not at all, any file you place there will be removed the next time you update your game. Hak/tlk and other custome file go into Document/Neverwinter Nights/ There you will find a folder for hak, tlk, override, portrait, etc.... just like in regular NWN
