First Ballad: Birth, Sacrifice and Assassination

A birth which marked its father's doom,
The spawn of the Matron Mother's womb.
A child's life so nearly put to end,
Traumas which time would never mend.
A drum made from the slain father's skin,
A tool used to rouse the evil in women and men.
An assassination which sealed his family's fate,
And filled its lone survivor with eternal hate.

Second Ballad: Life of a "Rogue"

Cast to the streets at such a young age,
Never trained as fighter nor mage.
Manipulating his way up a ladder of woe,
Anything to rise from a status so low.
Pounding his drum of darkness and pain,
Praising the Queen of malevolent gain.
Seeking the unlikely chance to be something more,
Than a male, an orphan, Menzoberranzan's sore.

Third Ballad: One Chance

Many years passed, at last he did gain,
The title of minstrel, comparter of pain.
He played in the chapel, he played for the Queen,
He played for his father, whom never he'd seen.
The Academy determined, to the surface he'd go,
To witness the elves, to further the lies of their foe.
Along with the party of raiders, our minstrel did travel,
Knowing the plans of the Academy soon would unravel.

Fourth Ballad: "Freed" by the Mists

He journeyed with raiders to the strangest of places,
Where the young bard found more innocent races.
He cared not for their kindness, nor patience, nor love,
But saw his chance to escape in this world above.
A chance to flee from chaos, from matron, from Queen
A chance to be weaver of tales and master of the unseen.
He ran through the woods and never looked back,
He welcomed the Mist, which covered his track.

Fifth Ballad: Lost

When every road results in the same cursed end,
And the control we maintain is really just pretend.
When every step leads to a deeper darkness than before,
And the absence of light fills our very core.
When the mists steal the air we gasp to inhale,
And in circles we chase our unattainable tail.
When up, down, east, and west are all the same,
And we’ve chased away the ones we had left to blame.

Sixth Ballad: Night

When you find yourself awake in darkest night,
And you’ve turned away from every light.
When you’ve exhausted every option you had left,
And your pleas fall on ears long gone deft.
When the steps you take are no longer your own,
And you reap the pain of all you’ve sown.
When you find yourself awake in darkest night,
And you loathe the sight of every light.
