Unusable Placable Chests

Placable chests purchased from Moulin a Scie in Port-a-Lucine do not function as intended. Both clicking and selecting Use from the action wheel prompt a conversation - Recover or Leave. There doesn't seem to be a way to just put things in and take things out of the chest.

Bash on them once, then click on them and they will open.

Yeah, haven't found a way to make them openable easily alas.
