arcane spell failure and scrolls
« on: March 16, 2017, 09:52:25 AM »
I have 3 questions:

If a scroll can only be cast by arcane casters, does it suffer armor arcane spell failure when I use a scroll for it through UMD?

If a scroll can only be cast by divine casters, does it suffer armor arcane spell failure when I use a scroll for it through UMD?

If a scroll can be cast by arcane AND divine casters (like greater sanctuary), does it suffer armor arcane spell failure when I use a scroll for it through UMD?
Not all who wander are lost.

Yes

No

Not sure, but I believe those spells would either have or not have a somatic component which it would list in the spell information. If they did then spell fail would apply-I think.

Edit: The answer to the last question is yes, at least with the spells I can think of. I suspect all spells that are shared by arcane and divine casters use somatic components which is why they suffer from armor arcane spell fail even though a divine caster could cast said spell with armor on.

To add a bit more to McNastea's reply, you will not suffer arcane spell failure on Arcane scrolls if there is no Somatic component to spell in question. Time Stop is a good example of such.
