Melee Feat Suggestions
« on: December 28, 2017, 04:09:07 PM »
In the spirit of the last feats that were introduced, I'd like to submit the following for consideration:

Canny Defense
Spoiler: show
Type of Feat: General
Prerequisites: Expertise, Weapon Finesse, Weapon Focus (Any)
Specifics: While wielding a melee weapon, the character may add their intelligence bonus to their AC. This ability does not function while wearing armor or holding a shield.

Greater Finesse
Spoiler: show
Type of Feat: General
Prerequisites: Strength 16+, BAB+2, Weapon Finesse, Weapon Focus (Any one-handed weapon)
The character combines their strength and agility, allowing them to make melee attack rolls with their dexterity modifier instead of strength (if their dexterity is higher than their strength).

Hand-and-a-Half
Spoiler: show
Type of Feat: General
Prerequisites: Weapon Focus (Bastard Sword, Dwarven Waraxe, or Spear)
Specifics: While wielding one of the above weapons with nothing in the off-hand, the character's strength modifier (if positive) is increased by 50% (rounded down) before being added to the damage inflicted by the weapon.

Hand-and-a-Half is a feat that essentially just brings these weapons in line with their PnP counterparts, as the whole point of a Bastard Sword or the like is that it can be used one or two-handed. It could definitely be expanded to other weapons in the game that would reasonably be held one or two-handed.

Greater Finesse is inspired by the Katana Finesse feat from the PRC. Canny Defense is likewise inspired by the feat of the same name from the PRC. The goal of the two together is to provide other viable paths and combinations for melee characters. Canny Defense in particular seems intriguing given that areas like D'loo are meant to represent societies where armor is largely eschewed.
