(NCE Event Diary) Randy Chavalier

Arylon northeast of Elturel it was a fine city mayor by a hero of some war its fine masonry and its woodsy reach made it a quarter stone for civilization in the Western Heartlands. This frontier land was prime for those seeking the adventuring life and the individual whose ancestry meant adventure. Randy wasn't that guy, he was by all means Hin of humor, debonair, and money not that he was cut purse or thief but what a group didn't find or miss was always for the taking. Gem on the wall no one bothered, Randy's. If so happens there was a coin on the ground with out an owner, Randy's. And if the loot needed to be rescued to save the dying adventurers well Randy would save them. He wasn't a terrible sort and he wasn't greedy just wealth was wealth and having it made things easy. He wasn't much a pick pocket but his travel with a bunny lass with some nice thighs taught the old halfer a lot.

Not everyday you meet a good thief who was also your mentor/lover and made you into a man. The art of dungeon entering was a thing all adventurers needed and it often was used just for that. Randy only stole from bad folk and the folk who cross him. nothing was wrong with that and his current job in Arylon he was liberating a statue from some evil Banites who had killed a little family's daughter for one of their unsavory rituals. So thought it fair to yoink the figure of Bane on their alter and make haste from Arylon. The hour was late and the Banites weren't too keen on Randy filching the statue the priestess and her followers were on his heels thankfully the forest was misty that night and the woods thick.

There was an eerie calm to the night and the mist wasn't moist which Randy's sweaty skin didn't recognize as right. There were no stars overhead it was the oddest night he ever been in thinking nothing else could get weirder. Now Randy wasn't the most frighten or bravest sort but he was jumpy when he heard the oddest chant in the oddest common almost broken. "We keep what we take!" over and over Randy heard as he hid in the tree keeping an eye out of what was making the racket but no sooner did he turn his head below he heard screams the Banites had engage whatever was making that chanting and it didn't sound pretty at all. Dropping down something was beneath him something smaller than him causing Randy to slip and twist his ankle. It's sickening crunch and wail only made Randy frighten even more as he ran away from the direction of all the screaming down the road back to Beregost at night.

Generally navigating the cloak woods wasn't treacherous given how the heroes wipe the goblins from the roads every day but tonight this mist rolled in thicker than a maiden's time of the month. Force to lift his lamp light it and give away his position Randy could hear movement behind him like rustling. turning slowly he saw several golden bitty eyes in the distance and charging to him. Randy wasn't having any of that nonsense and began running down the road. No sooner did he run did some shadowy figure stood in the middle of the road in front of him. Randy was the good sort but no fool something foul was going on but he called out to the man.

"Run you blistering shadowy nimrod there be tiny little beasties on me tail! Halfers and Women first!" shouted Randy but the Shadow man did nothing to move.

As Randy got closer to the man the Mist rolled in like a crashing wave his lamp going out. He could see he was surrounded by the little golden eyes their chanting growing more and more. "Oooohhh! now wait a minute fellas if you want the statue here! Take it don't want the accursed thing anyways!"

With a gentle reach to his back pack he felt the eerie presence of something behind him the cold sweat down the halfers back caused him to shudder the depth of frigid cold that embraced through his clothes was like that of winter the place seem to drop in temperature. his lamps light flickered and dimmed the air seemingly growing heavier and thinner to breathe till Randy could barely see anything but the fog surrounding him. Slowly he turned and paused seeing the hint of a dark cowl beside him the thing was kneeling watching him he turned the other way and yet he still saw the cowl beside him Randy almost thought there was two of them. Looking up her rpayed to any good deity who spare him tonight but instead saw the cowl figure with a mace held over his head and bringing it down on the halfling.

Flesh swelled blood cascaded Randy wasn't sure if he was dead but he knew he was dragging somewhere and yet nowhere. Gradually as he came too he could hear the beats of drums and people talking. Randy prayed and mumbled that he wasn't going to be something's meal he felt the warm hands of tiny things touching him. Screaming as he awoke he was surrounded by dark skinned little urchins by fire light the taller ones were in strange clothes. These gypsies were talking in some language he didn't understand and then he saw one of them drawing a bow to him. So he did what any good halfling did Randy wett'em and ran screaming like a little girl through the night all the way to a road he followed and to some kind of church. Climbing a tree he waited till the sun would come up he had no idea where he was or why it was cold out when it was spring all he knew this wasn't Arylon anymore.

Randy's first big day was following people through the crypts picking up things they had missed on their travels. gold, trinkets, finger bones, arrows what was one person's junk was another Hin's treasure. Then he met the Elf, the Farmer, the Dwarves, the Woman, and the Soldier at the crypt Randy wasn't up to no good but he did like following people and anything they left behind was just another treasure for him to survive on in this crazy wacky land. Eventually the was spotted and he made himself known of course a halfling sneaker was always met with the genuine praise of apprehension and distrust but Randy wasn't the sort to judge people just because misgivings. He did come in handy nailing and healing the group when needed he even help unlock doors and traps for them when they asked.

However Randy wasn't prepared for the tunnels far below especially when they turned around and there was a whole drove of men rat things! Fear chocked Randy's heart as he screamed running down the hall the tall folk running him over pushing him out of the way. that Verdana lass dun got him snugged in the wall and that's when he felt sharp pain and the swift blackness of night close in his eyes her rear end the last sight Randy ever see. Things were cold and bleak there wasn't any last breathe just fleetingness of nothing before his eyes just slowly open due to the noise and prayers of the blood priests working on him. Eventually he awoke before the priestess swathed in bandages and apparently much alive. Randy didn't know what happen but some one saved him that was for sure and Randy wasn't a one for debts.

Wasn't to short after his waking he headed to the gypsy camp and found the Elf who was some what dismayed in him being alive but seem happy when he offered the mage scrolls. By the time Randy was done the elf had vanish most elf mages did that but Randy then found his new Master! Gorm the Dwarf who spared his life and saved him the one being out of all of them to let the hin survive. Randy knew from that day forward till he could get back to Arylon he would pledge himself to Master Gorm and his family till the debt of life was paid through. So in Master Gorm's next journey to the crypts he followed him like a fly on a fresh summer pie picking loot and delectable trinkets just for the Master. Nothing was too good for the man who saved and spare his life from the rats. Even on command Randy opened locked doors, traps, and coffins just so the Master's pocket was lined with coin.

Further that day he even went to learn a Dwarf's work mining the mines with Master Gorm in hopes to learn the Dwarven trade of mining. No task was too small or to hard for Randy he loot, work, and even steal if it meant doing good to Master Gorm the dwarf master who saved his life. No one had ever done anything like that for Randy not even in the orphanage he grew up in at Beregost. Though he did seem to like this little doll the Master and him found it had strange powers Randy didn't know what it did but it did seem to heckle the heck out of the town folk. Wachter guards were a bit of a pain but it was clear they didn't like foreigners that weren't human. The sods talk to his Master poorly again they find themselves sipping poo tea through broken teeth they would that's how Randy felt as he continued working the mine for ores.
