Red walls and other graphical glitching
« on: July 27, 2015, 06:23:45 AM »
I recently installed nwn on my new laptop, and noticed these red walls around the Sanctuary and also inside the Lady's Rest, replacing the liquor shelves.  I tried reinstalling CEP and the ravenloft HAK, without any luck.   The text box also flickers transparent, as well as the game options menu. Help?

This has to do with AMD video cards, which don't handle NwN well at all.

There's no way to fix it, as far as I know, save for a new video card.

Guess I'll just have to live with it then...  :x

Thanks for the reply.

I once had an AMD video card and all I had to do was to fiddle with the options in the control panel. I went through this years ago and at this point I don't remember what solved for me. There's probably a guide on the internet somewhere.

I'd go along with Purist on this one. Try fiddling around with options in the CCC if it truly bothers you.

I think Soren is fixing this for our next hak update.

You need to fiddle with your card's performance and energy saving settings.

My own laptop will show red cubes when on energy saving mode and will not show them when I pump up the juice.

It more than likely CAN be fixed from your end.

Found this thread from two years ago discussing the same issue:

http://www.nwnravenloft.com/forum/index.php?action=printpage;topic=31926.0

FWIW, Bluebomber's suggestion of using an older driver in that thread is echoed on an Ubuntu thread (for those playing NWN on Linux via emulator) to fix the same problem.

I *think* a couple of months ago when I was messing with NWN graphics settings to try to avoid the Balinoks crash I saw the red boxes in one mode. So as troukk says, you might be able to get rid of them just by adjusting settings.

Set performance to max on my intel graphics properties. No luck.

The video card in question is described under devices as "Intel (r) HD graphics" with no serial # or anything, so I'm guessing it's pretty crappy to begin with.

I have this same problem, I have gone through it again and again. Sadly, there's no real guaranteed way to fix it. After a while, I just stopped noticing them, really. They only appear in a few areas such as those walls in the screenshot, around the borders of some vistani caravans, and the large campfire pits in the mistcamp and vallaki vistani camp. I also have the text bar at the bottom where you write your emotes will flicker in and out of existence if something isn't highlighted.

Hopefully Windows 10 might fix it, but I've found no clear solution, but you're not alone.
