Southern Coast of Lake Zarovich
« on: September 23, 2010, 07:29:05 PM »
Along the southern shores of Lake Zarovich, a river boat has been seen holding anchor just a mile off the Vallaki Docks. Vallaki fishermen have been heard commenting on the reclusive crew and the small ships foreign name painted along the bow, "Tua Fellazad".

Travelers along the road parallel to Lake Zarovich cresting along the southern banks arrive unnerved when reaching their destination.  Stammering and stuttering recounts of a macabre scene, a wagon engulfed in a conflagration and finally reduced to a smoldering pile of ash lay near the wheel-rutted roadside.  The putrid scent of burning flesh and hair permeated the immediate surroundings of the wreckage as plumes of smoke billowed in the lakeside breeze.

A beast of burden, the unfortunate creature subjected to bit and bridle while pulling the wagon, was a charred husk of singed fur and flesh.  The remnants of bodies were scattered: pale, freckled flesh stained with speckles of dried crimson.  Their auburn hair was matted and caked with viscera and gore.  Shattered remains of bones, stripped clean of marrow, and savagely gnawed appendages were strewn about by a monstrosity unknown. Despite the evidence of a gruesome and bestial feasting and the fragments of wagon and cargo littering the ashen and flame-purged earth and ash, unusual formations of fungal growths sprouted from the carnage.  The mushrooms seemed to flourish in the decay and preternatural flames and smoldering debris, spreading in a formation that led to the site of a profane ritual.  Markings of concentric circles and runic engravings were partially obscured by blood, dirt, and trampled grass.

The rain eventually abated the flames and smoke, each droplet resounding with an audible sizzle and crackle.  Carrion feeders plucked and scavenged the ravaged bodies of any flesh worth consumption and the earth consumed the sanguine liquid until it was no more.

A scene of pandemonium graces the coastline of Lake Zarovich, crimson pools of blood, discarded weaponry, and gore litters the landscape.  Rumors of banditry flitter from the lips of those that have returned from this hellish battlefield along with reports of feral creatures, frothing and rabid maws of normally docile fauna turned vicious.  Amphibious bodies litter the shorefront, stags gutted and entrails laid bare to blanch in sun.  Barely a step can be taken without treading upon the bloated, festering corpse of the ravenous beasts and the air was heavy with the putrid odor of rot and decay.

A foam encrusts the corners of the mouths of beasts of burden as they turn upon their masters. Insects and vermin descend upon the fields – feasting upon the remnants of crops.  The bedlam and lamentations a low howl that descends upon the Grey City and the lands that border Lake Zarovich.

The lands are abuzz with the talk of pestilence and plague, laborers salvaging their morsels of viable food from their farms and raising orisons to the firmament.  Amidst the buzzing of insects, regions of flora were hung heavy with crystalline icicles, threatening to topple branches with the weight of the frozen drizzle that pelted the landscape.  As the ebb of nature seemed to defy its own laws, discord fell upon those that tread through the lands – maleficence and vitriol dripped from the lips of the inhabitants of the Grey City, condemning the influx of outsiders that littered their lands and caused their suffering.  Tensions growing to a feverish pitch.

It was unlikely that any noticed the lone figure that had been witnessing the horrors that have been plaguing the North Western Roads, the first horrors, would've been told from the grey robed figure, upon the Outskirts, the evening it had happened. Though his features were normally cloaked, likely some have heard the Moon Elf, introduce himself as Tharlendur, first spoke of the slaughter of the caravan, pointing towards two large men wearing black armor, one with a large axe, smearing  blood on their features. Luckily he had been gathering herbs under the veil of invisibility, granted by the Lady Moonbow during such an carnage.

Even though such warnings likely fell on deaf ears, days, or was it weeks? He could never keep track of the time in this place, he once again spoke of terrors. This time, in the shape of wild beasts, telling how waves of the creatures, from frog, to Worg, and a very giant beaver, in which he placed heavy emphasizes upon. Such a wild tale, he'd spin once more in the Outskirts, and at first to only a select few he had inquired about the odd fungai he had found.

Though of the late, he has grown perhaps more desperate for information, having been asking locals alike, though normally in hushed tones, some tavern keepers had likely heard of him speak freely, how he thinks this fungai was leading to the insanity plaguing the creatures of the woods. Perhaps he was misinformed, for he was a foreigner, in mysterious lands, stating that such a fungai was carried here by Timperists? Gods, he always fumbled over the native's origins. Of the late, he has been asking a lot of whom these people were, and even more so has taken to travelling the road shrouded in his lady's blessing, studying the herbs that surrounded the trees, perhaps trying to solve this mystery.

//I read the guidelines, and hope I've stuck to them. Feel free to edit this post, as it's been some time since I've actually placed anything on a forum, and am a bit rusty. Though I would like to thank DM Brimstone for an amazing event, and helping feed my addiction to this awesome gothic horror server.

[Every few nights along the shores of Lake Zarovich, just past the northern gates of the city, after it is well past dusk, the soft voice of a woman singing barely carries over the wind, mixing in with the waves of Lake Zarovich. Like distant whispers of one's imagination, the mournful, sombre tunes serenade the moon and the sky.]

[The lone songstress in the night seems to have disappeared the past week and a bit more, the time coinciding with the arrival of more evil to Vallaki.]

In the deep hours of the night, an unusual disturbance was observed in Lake Zarovich. Witnesses reported seeing the water's surface come alive with swirling whirlpools and powerful currents that resulted in a powerful surge, sending a column of water soaring from the center of the lake.
Some locals reported noticing mysterious red glow emanating from the water.
